Checkpoint Registration: After a 40-minute journey, we arrive at the checkpoint where we register for our excursion Amazon Rainforest Tambopata.
Jungle Walk to the Port: We embark on a 3 km walk along a boarded road to reach a small port.
Canoe Ride on Sandoval Lake: Boarding a rowing canoe, we navigate through a winding channel, immersing ourselves in the beauty of Sandoval Lake.

Wildlife Observation: Along the shores of the lake, we observe its typical inhabitants, including river otters, black alligators, shansho prehistoric bird, herons, cormorants, kingfishers, monkeys, and other animals.

Lunch at the Lodge: After our excursion, we return to our lodge for a delicious lunch.

Jungle Exploration: Following lunch, we take a guided walk inside the jungle of the reserve, observing different species of flora and fauna, such as plants, giant trees, medicinal plants, mammals, monkeys, insects, amphibians, reptiles, and birds.

Return Journey: We gather our belongings and head to the port to board the rowing canoe for the return journey along the same path.

Transfer Back to Puerto Maldonado: Arriving at the checkpoint, we board an outboard boat that takes us back to the city of Puerto Maldonado.
Transfer to Terrestrial Terminal: Upon arrival in Puerto Maldonado, we transfer to the terrestrial terminal for onward travel.

1. Contract Acceptance

By booking a trip with TAMBOPATA LODGE  – Travel & Tourism Agency (www.tambopatalodge.net), you agree to be legally bound by these Terms and Conditions. This document governs the relationship between the client and the company, including cancellation policies, payments, modifications, and legal responsibilities. The applicable law will be that of Peru Amazon .

By doing so, you confirm that you have read and accepted these terms on behalf of yourself and all other travelers included in the booking (including minors and persons with disabilities).

A booking is considered confirmed only when the company issues a confirmation email or receipt. At that point, a formal contract is established between the company and the client. The company reserves the right to modify prices before confirmation or to reject a booking at its discretion.

Sandoval Lake operates in remote areas where service standards may differ from those in your home country. Traveling in the Peruvian Amazon requires flexibility, patience, and understanding of potential changes due to circumstances beyond our control.

4. Force Majeure

Sandoval Lake is not responsible for situations that cannot be foreseen or avoided despite due diligence, such as:

• Social unrest
• Natural phenomena
• Strikes
• Illness outbreaks
• Extreme weather conditions
• Unexpected closures

In such cases, the company reserves the right to modify, postpone, or cancel the trip as a last resort.

5. Travel Insurance

We recommend purchasing travel insurance that covers:

• Accidents
• Medical expenses
• Emergency repatriation
• Cancellations
• Lost luggage

Please send us your policy number before your trip.

6. Personal Documentation – Booking Terms and Conditions –Tambopata Lodge

Your passport must be valid. Please inform us if you plan to renew it before the trip.

If applicable, the ISIC card must be valid at the start of the tour.

7. Deposit and Final Payment – Booking Terms and Conditions –Tambopata Lodge 

• To confirm your reservation, the following is required: 50% advance payment of the total cost of the tour package. This can be made in Peruvian soles or dollars. The remaining balance must be paid at least 48 hours before the tour starts at our offices in Lima, Cusco, or Puerto Maldonado (with cash in Peruvian soles or dollars). All amounts are subject to agreement with the client.

Important Notes:

 Transaction fees are not included in the tour price.

8. Cancellations

Cancellations must be submitted in writing to bookingmanutrips@hotmail.com. The following penalties apply:
Notice Period Penalty

• Up to 14 days before the trip, nothing is paid.
• From 13 to 8 days before the trip: 50% of the total.
• 2 days before or the same day: 100% of the total (non-refundable).

The final balance is non-refundable.

If requested, we can issue a letter for your travel insurance company.

Some unused portions of the service (e.g., Machu Picchu entrance tickets) may still be redeemable.

 

Only the person who made the booking may request a refund.

Taxes and bank/transfer fees are not refundable.

Estimated refund processing time: 3 to 10 business days.

11. Health Recommendations

We recommend staying at an altitude above 3,000 meters (e.g., Cusco) for at least 3 days before the tour to minimize the effects of altitude sickness.

12. Early Arrival

Tambopata Buffer Zone Reserve

 Social, Economic, and Productive Characterization of the Populations in the Tambopata Buffer Zone Reserve

1. Population and Localities in the Tambopata National Reserve Tambopata Reserve Buffer Zone

According to the INEI (2007) census, Madre de Dios is the least populated region in Peru, with only 0.4% of the national population. The Buffer Zone (ZA) of the Tambopata National Reserve (RNTAMB) is home to approximately 8,147 inhabitants, distributed across the districts of Tambopata, Laberinto, and Inambari, along the Puerto Maldonado-Cusco highway, and in the Tambopata and Malinowski river basins.

• Population Projection
  2009: 117,981 inhabitants.
• 2010: 121,183 inhabitants.
• Annual growth rate (2010): 2.71% (INEI, 2011).

2. Types of Human Settlements in the Tambopata Buffer Zone Reserve

The inhabitants of the Madre de Dios rainforest are organized primarily into:

a) Native Communities
There are four native communities:

Ese’Eja: Palma Real, Sonene, Infierno.

Pukirieri: Kotsimba.

b) Population Centers
They group more than 350 families. They have a lieutenant governor, but depend on the district municipalities.

c) Sectors
Small groups of families, similar to neighborhoods, without their own authorities.

d) Producer Associations
Groups organized for economic activities, with a Board of Directors and family and neighborhood ties.

3. Populated Areas Identified in the RNTAMB -Tambopata Buffer Zone Reserve

Five key areas have been identified:

a) Puerto Maldonado-Cusco Highway Zone

23 sectors in the districts of Tambopata, Laberinto, and Inambari, with agricultural activities.

b) Tambopata River Zone
12 sectors located in the Tambopata District, from Puerto Maldonado to the Bahuaja Sonene National Park.

c) Malinowski River Zone
Includes mining associations and the Kotsimba Native Community. All sectors belong to the Inambari District.

d) Madre de Dios River Zone
From the mouth of the Tambopata River to the Sonene Community. It covers sectors such as Palma Real and Sonene (Tambopata District).

e) Internal RNTAMB Zone
Includes the Sandoval Lake and Nueva América sectors, within the Tambopata National Reserve.

4. Possessions and Acquired Rights in the RNTAMB – Tambopata Buffer Zone Reserve

Before its creation, the RNTAMB had 27 rights of use (possession certificates and property titles).

Notable cases:
Nueva América: 18 registered rights (1,150 ha). Some properties overlap with SERNANP Brazil nut harvesting contracts.

Lago Sandoval: 4 property titles (287 ha).

Infierno: Native community with 960 ha overlapping the RNTAMB.

La Torre: 1 titled property of 105 ha.

Total overlapping area: 3,708 ha.

5. Control and Surveillance Infrastructure

The RNTAMB has 9 strategically distributed checkpoints:

Checkpoints: San Antonio, Briolo, Huisene, Sandoval, Jorge Chávez, La Torre, Malinowski, Azul, and Farfán.

Objective: Control access to the Bahuaja Sonene National Park and monitor the conservation of the area.

Operational Goal (2011)

200 annual patrols (8 special ones), carried out according to the threats detected in the area.

6. Social and Cultural Life in Tambopata

Communities celebrate local, regional, and national festivals such as:

Popular: San Juan, Carnival, Virgen de la Candelaria, Anniversary of Puerto Maldonado.

Native Cultural: Traditional rites, songs, and dances in devotion to deities according to their ancestral worldview.

Sports, especially soccer championships, are a common practice during anniversaries and intercommunity celebrations.

7. Local Economic Development in the Tambopata Buffer Zone Reserve

a) Agricultural Situation
Agricultural properties average 42.7 ha:

• 14.2 ha for agriculture.
• 4.4 ha for livestock.
• 24.1 ha as preserved forest.

Main Crops

Corn, rice, cassava, and plantain. These are sold mainly in Puerto Maldonado and Mazuko, without intermediaries, generating direct income for farmers.

b) Livestock Production

Cattle: Common in the Puerto Maldonado-Cusco highway area (requires 1 ha per animal).

Poultry and Small Animals: For personal consumption, present throughout the area, raised by the family unit.

The income from these activities covers basic needs such as education, healthcare, and housing.
