After breakfast, we head toward the spectacular Lake Sandoval. We travel approximately 20 minutes upstream by motorized boat to reach the main entrance of this stunning oxbow lake located within the Tambopata Reserve.

After registering at the entrance, we begin a 3-kilometer hike through pristine rainforest, observing a variety of wildlife including monkeys, birds, macaws, and, with luck, other rainforest animals.

Later, we arrive at a small jungle dock hidden deep within the forest, where we board a hand-paddled canoe and travel through a winding, snake-shaped channel for approximately 20 minutes.

Once on Lake Sandoval, we quietly explore the lake by canoe, allowing excellent opportunities to observe wildlife without disturbing its natural behavior. Species commonly seen include hoatzins, herons, birds of prey, howler monkeys, capuchin monkeys, and, with luck, the endangered giant river otter. Black caimans can also occasionally be spotted along the shoreline.

In the afternoon, we return to the lodge.

We will then head to the main port to begin our boat journey along the Madre de Dios River.

As we travel, we will begin to feel the landscape changing: little by little, the city disappears behind us and the lush Amazon rainforest becomes the setting for our adventure.

Upon arrival at the lodge, we will enjoy a welcome drink made with Amazonian fruits and have time to settle into our rooms.

First Rainforest Exploration : In the afternoon, we will take our first interpretive walk through the tropical rainforest.

Mammal Clay Lick : In the afternoon, we will visit a mammal clay lick, a natural area where different species may gather to consume salts and minerals found in the soil.

Depending on conditions, we may observe species such as:

• Collared peccaries
• Deer
• Monkeys
• Different species of birds

Wildlife observation will be conducted respectfully, avoiding any disturbance to the animals’ natural behavior.

Amazonian Evening : To conclude our final full day in the rainforest, we may gather around a campfire—when conditions and local regulations permit—to listen to traditional Amazonian stories and legends shared by our guide.

It will be a special moment to share the experiences we have enjoyed throughout the journey.

RETURN TO PUERTO MALDONADO – END OF THE ADVENTURE

Final Moments in the Rainforest

We will enjoy a peaceful morning to relax, take photographs and enjoy our final moments surrounded by the Amazon rainforest.

We will then begin our return journey.

We will travel by boat along the river to the point where we connect with our ground transportation and continue to Puerto Maldonado.

Once in the city, we will transfer to the airport or bus station to continue to our next destination.
