Your unforgettable Amazon adventure begins the moment you arrive in Puerto Maldonado. Upon landing at the bus terminal or airport, we’ll greet you with a warm welcome and transfer you to our office for registration. You’ll have the chance to store any heavy luggage before preparing for your Amazon Explorer experience.
We then travel by 4×4 vehicle from Puerto Maldonado to Puerto Tambopata, where the journey truly begins. From there, board a traditional rowing boat for a peaceful ride down the river. Keep your eyes peeled for local wildlife—expect to encounter capybaras, turtles, exotic birds, and perhaps even the elusive jaguar lounging by the riverbank.
Once we arrive at your lodge, you’ll be greeted with a refreshing Amazonian drink, before settling into your comfortable room. After a delicious lunch, we’ll venture out on an afternoon guided walk through the lush primary forest, where ancient trees tower overhead and wildlife thrives.
As night falls, we’ll embark on a thrilling boat ride to spot nocturnal creatures like caimans, capybaras, and possibly even a feline predator on the prowl. With the sounds of the rainforest echoing around you, we return to the lodge for a restful night in the heart of the Amazon.
Prepare for a once-in-a-lifetime wildlife encounter! After an early breakfast, we set off by boat up the Tambopata River to witness the breathtaking sunrise and the natural beauty of the Amazon. Along the way, we may spot capybaras, caimans, and, with some luck, even a jaguar.
We’ll arrive at the Collpa de Guacamayos (Macaw Clay Lick), a natural phenomenon where hundreds of vibrant parrots and macaws gather to eat mineral-rich clay. This behavior, known as geophagy, helps these birds detoxify and supplement their diet. Watching this spectacle is a truly magical experience that showcases the incredible biodiversity of the Tambopata region.
After returning to the lodge for a delicious lunch, the afternoon offers an opportunity to explore more of the region. Choose between a peaceful kayak ride along the river or a guided walk through both primary and secondary forests, where we’ll encounter more wildlife in their natural habitat.
As dusk falls, we’ll embark on a guided night walk to witness the jungle’s nighttime symphony—chirping insects, croaking toads, and the distant calls of monkeys and other mammals. Return to the lodge, reflect on the day’s experiences, and rest up for another exciting adventure tomorrow.
On your final day, enjoy a hearty breakfast before you have some free time to capture last-minute photos of the stunning surroundings. We’ll then begin our return journey along the Tambopata River by boat, heading back to the port where we’ll continue by vehicle to Puerto Maldonado.
Once we arrive in Puerto Maldonado, we’ll ensure you’re comfortably transferred to the airport or bus terminal, with enough time for check-in—at least 2 hours before your scheduled departure.
