DAY 1: Arrival – Sandoval Lake Adventure – Nocturnal Safari
Welcome to Puerto Maldonado
Upon arrival, our team will greet you at the airport or bus terminal and transfer you to our office. Here, you can
safely store large luggage and prepare a light daypack for your jungle adventure.
River & Jungle Journey
Travel by motorized canoe (~30 minutes) along the Madre de Dios River to the Tambopata National Reserve checkpoint. Begin a scenic 3 km (approx. 1-hour) hike through pristine rainforest.
Arrival at Lake Sandoval
Cross the tranquil lake by paddle canoe to reach Sandoval Lake Lodge, your base in the heart of the jungle trip  manu .
Afternoon Wildlife Excursion
Watch for giant river otters, black caimans, hoatzins, herons, monkeys, and other unique Amazon species.
Night Caiman Safari
After dinner, set out with a professional naturalist guide to explore the nocturnal world of the Amazon, spotlighting

DAY 2: Rainforest Hike – Sunset Canoe Ride

Guided Jungle Trek

Sandoval Lake Lodge Tour – 3 Days / 2 Nights
Explore the Heart of the Amazon | Puerto Maldonado – Tambopata National Reserve
DAY 1: Arrival – Sandoval Lake Adventure – Nocturnal Caiman Safari
Upon arrival in Puerto Maldonado, our representative will greet you at the airport or bus terminal. We’ll take you to our office, where you can safely store large luggage not needed for the trip. Please bring a daypack with essentials for the jungle.
From there, we travel by motorized canoe along the Madre de Dios River, observing wildlife such as turtles, lizards, monkeys, and exotic birds. After about 30 minutes, we reach the Tambopata Reserve checkpoint and begin a scenic 3 km jungle hike (1. hours) through pristine rainforest.
Upon arrival at Lake Sandoval, we cross the lake by paddle canoe to reach the Sandoval Lake Lodge, your base for the next two nights. After settling in and enjoying a delicious Amazonian lunch, we head back onto the lake for our first wildlife excursion. Look out for giant river otters, black caimans, hoatzin (shansho), kingfishers, and other lake residents.
After dinner at the lodge, we set out for an evening caiman safari, guided by a professional naturalist guide who explains the nocturnal habits of these Amazonian reptiles. MANU JUNGLE TRIPS

DAY 2: Macaw Palm Tree – Jungle Hike – Sunset Canoe Ride
Wake up early for a visit to the Palm Tree , a marshy area where macaws, parrots, and parakeets feed on mineral-rich palm tree bark that helps their digestion. This rare natural phenomenon is a highlight for birdwatchers and photographers.
After breakfast, enjoy a guided rainforest hike through the Tambopata Reserve, where you may encounter monkeys, wild boars, tapirs, deer, or even a spectacled bear.
We return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation, with the option to swim in Lake Sandoval during the safe daylight hours (don’t worry – there are no piranhas or dangerous animals during the day).
In the late afternoon, we paddle across the lake for a stunning Amazon sunset experience. As night falls, we return to the lodge for dinner, followed by another optional moonlit caiman watching tour.

DAY 3: Return to Puerto Maldonado
After breakfast, we board our canoe for a peaceful final journey across Lake Sandoval. We hike back to the checkpoint and then travel down the Madre de Dios River by motorboat to Puerto Maldonado.
Upon arrival, you’ll retrieve your stored luggage and be transferred to either the Puerto Maldonado airport or bus terminal for your onward journey.
